Who are we?
Attleboro's Global War on Terrorism Monument Committee is a dedicated group of citizens, brought together by our Mayor, with a shared mission to honor and commemorate the brave men and women who have served in the Global War on Terrorism. Our committee is composed of many individuals, including service members, who are committed to creating a lasting tribute to the sacrifices made by our nation's heroes. Through the generosity of our community and supporters, we are working to fund and build a monument that will stand as a symbol of remembrance, gratitude, and respect for all those who have served in the Global War on Terrorism. This monument will serve as a gathering place for reflection, healing, and education, ensuring that the stories and sacrifices of our service members are never forgotten.
​What is the Global War on Terrorism?
The Global War on Terrorism, or GWOT, is a term used to describe the international military campaign that was launched by the United States in response to the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. The primary objective of this campaign was to combat terrorism, eliminate terrorist organizations, particularly Al-Qaeda, and prevent the spread of terrorism worldwide. ​ The GWOT encompassed several military operations, including the war in Afghanistan, Operation Enduring Freedom, and the war in Iraq, Operation Iraqi Freedom, as well as a number of operations in other countries. As a nation, we continue to honor and support the brave men and women who have served in the Global War on Terrorism, recognizing their sacrifices and dedication to protecting our country.
